Coleus
Today, Southern Gardening is at Rivers Greenhouse and Garden Center in Brandon, MS admiring their great selection of coleus. Let’s take a closer look at some of these plants. Kingswood Torch has foliage that is typically a rich burgundy or maroon color, often with contrasting edges in shades of green. The centers of the leaves on this plant have a torch or flame pattern in a faded reddish-pink color. Hence its name, Kingswood Torch. TerraScape All That Jazz is a new coleus on the market now. I love the green leaves that have varied center patterns in shades of burgundy, maroon, and yellow. The colorful leaf patterns on the foliage of this plant definitely attract the eye. Another new coleus, TerraScape Solar Fire has bright lime green leaves with maroon color radiating from the center veins on the leaves. The unique texture of the leaves adds to the character of this plant. If you are looking for a coleus to brighten up your landscape, ChargedUp Electric Lime coleus will definitely do the job. With its bright lime green foliage with lemon yellow leaf veins, there is no way it will be overlooked in the landscape. Let’s not forget that solid colored foliage can also make a statement. Redhead coleus has vibrant, solid, red colored leaves that will deepen in color in strong light. All of these plants have bold, eye-catching foliage, making them standout plants in the landscape. I am Eddie Smith, and I will see you next time on Southern Gardening.
