French Marigolds
If you want to create an easy color splash in your fall garden, then you want to plant annual French marigolds. There are lots of selections to choose from ready to liven up your garden. Janie Yellow marigold is a prolific bloomer. Its 2-inch bright yellow blooms drape the dwarf plant that reaches just 8 to 10 inches high and 6 to 8 inches wide, with an exceptionally uniform growth habit. You can’t miss Bonanza Deep Orange marigold in the garden with its bright orange double-crested flowers reaching 2-3" in diameter and dark green foliage. This plant has an upright growth habit of 10-12" tall and 6-8" wide. I love Bonanza Bee marigold with its yellow-edged mahogany double-crested flowers reaching 2-3" in diameter on compact plants with dark green foliage reaching 10-12" tall and 6-8" wide. The Bonanza hybrids have some of the largest flowers with diameters two inches or greater. Marigolds are easy to grow and love a lot of sunshine, but you will need to dead-head spent flowers to encourage additional blooming. Did you know that marigold flower petals are edible? Imagine using marigold petals as a garnish with your favorite recipe. All of these plants perform well in full sun, offer uniform branching, strong stems, and prolific fragrant flowers and foliage that attract beneficial insects and repel pests. French marigolds will definitely brighten up your fall garden. I am Eddie Smith, and I will see you next time on Southern Gardening.
