MSU names Hoblet dean for veterinary medicine
MISSISSIPPI STATE -- Dr. Kent Hoblet, a native of Ohio, has been named dean of Mississippi State University’s College of Veterinary Medicine.
Currently a faculty member and administrator at Ohio State University, Hoblet will assume his new duties at the Starkville campus June 16.
Hoblet earned his doctor of veterinary medicine degree and master’s degree at Ohio State University. He was in private practice for 12 years in Ashland, Ohio before joining the OSU faculty in 1983. Since 1991, he has served as chair of the Department of Veterinary Preventive Medicine and as the university’s Extension veterinarian for dairy cattle.
“Under his leadership, the department Dr. Hoblet headed at OSU grew and achieved success in several areas, including outreach,” said MSU Vice President for Agriculture, Forestry and Veterinary Medicine Vance Watson. “We are fortunate to have someone with his ability and experience to lead the college.”
MSU's program in veterinary medicine has established strengths in areas critical to both the veterinary profession and the nation's health, Hoblet said.
“I look forward to seeing the College of Veterinary Medicine at MSU build on its strengths in training new veterinarians, research and outreach to the state,” he added.
The MSU College of Veterinary Medicine was established by the Mississippi Legislature in 1974. It has graduated more than 1,000 veterinarians and more than half of the veterinarians in Mississippi are alumni of MSU-CVM.
